Next came jaws. Jaws help animals chew stuff, bite or grind, and if you've got jaws you can get more food. Then you can stay alive longer and have more babies and pass your DNA better.
Some of the first animals with jaws were placoderms. They lived in water and were big, a little bit like sharks. Sharks descended from them.
